Introduction
to Nanonetworks - concepts, challenges and
opportunities

Xin-Wei Yao received his BS
and PhD degrees in Mechanical and
Electrical Engineering and Information
Engineering from the Zhejiang University
of Technology, Hangzhou, China. Currently,
he is an Associate Professor at the school
of Computer Science and Technology,
Zhejiang University of Technology.
From 2012 to 2013, Dr. Yao was a visiting
scholar in the Department of Computer
Science at Loughborough University in
Leistershire, UK. From 2015 to 2016, he
was a visiting professor in the Department
of Electrical Engineering at University at
Buffalo, the State University of New York.
Dr. Yao received many awards from the
Chinese Government and Associations. Ge
has published many academic papers both in
high-level international conferences and
journals.

Dr. Yao's current research interests include
Smart Sensing and Collaboration, Terahertz
Communications, Nanonetworks, AI-enabled
Internet of Things. He has published more than
80 academic papers, a couple academic books, and
owns more than 20 authorized invention patents
in China.
Due to the achievement of the funded projects by
the National Natural Science Foundation,
government and industry, he has received more
than ten important awards from Chinese
government and associations. Among these awards
he received the 2018 Wu Wen-Jun Artificial
Intelligence Excellent Youth Award by the China
Artificial Intelligence Association for his
pioneering contributions to multi-scale smart
sensing and communication for wireless
networking. He also received the 2019 second
prize of technological invention given by the
Zhejiang provincial government for the
achievements of his project "Key Technologies
and Applications of Key Management and Data
Security for Internet of Things". In 2020 he was
named as one of the Hangzhou Top Ten Young
Science and Technology Talents (Under 40).
